The Threshold

Here I am, positioned between two adversaries- the alpha and the omega that are interfaced each time our blue-green ball finishes going around the super-star ( the sun, not Rajini! ). And it's time to look back at the past 366 days and weigh the good ones versus the bad....
The balance seems to be toppling a bit, due to the excess weight on the bad side. :-/
2008, I feel, was good for few people around the globe.
The most notable (to me) of those few happy people are: my cousin who succeeded in marrying his beloved, the entire Chandrayaan I team (which makes us all PROUD AND ECSTATIC:) ), Barack Hussein Obama who created history by becoming the first black US President, Asif Ali Zardari who became President in a country where he faced corruption charges just a decade back, Aravind Adiga, the South Indian who won the Man Booker Prize, Abhinav Bhindra who did India proud with his Olympic gold medal and Dhoni ( he needs no intro ofcourse ) who led Team India's great win over the Aussies :)...
Now, coming to the darker side of 2008 which seems to overshadow the better side- The Great Economic Depression struck again. Banks becoming bankrupt, job cuts, sensex fall and inflation rise.. Also, I am greatly saddened by what my beloved motherland has been subjected to.. Too many terrorist strikes, originating from within and out of the country. In the early second-half of the year, our Indians were tortured, thrown out of their homes and even killed by none other than their compatriots, in the name of religion. Bomb blasts rocked Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Jaipur and Assam, initiated by unknown anti-social elements. In Mumbai, chaos was caused by indigenous elements earlier ( in the name of protecting the rights of the Marathis) and by non-human beings who entered via the waters and left behind a sea of blood. The latest attack targeted the locations in our country in a way that expressed opposition to the tourist-friendly ambience here. India is not one of the cleanest countries and we most definitely do not have good roads or other facilities on par with the super powers. Still, foreigners come here because of the people here, the warm hospitality that is exclusively Indian and the awesome monuments which display the sheer greatness of our ancestral architecture. All these which make any Indian proud of his/her own country, were targeted and the face of India was irreversibly blemished. This incident provoked widespread anguish and uprising of all citizens.
It is morbidly funny that in our country, Politicians divide us but Terrorists unite us.
Despite the excess-weight on the bad side, I am hopeful that tomorrow, a better year would originate. 365 days henceforth, if I am not killed by a bomb blast or a terrorist's bullets, I'd like to blog about a year that was better than this in many ways. It would be impossible to avoid the unfortunate events in life, which actually make us stronger for converting problems to challenges is what human beings like doing with their sixth sense.
Our nation will be electing a govt the coming summer and all we can do is hope, hope and only hope that India is led properly through a fruitful year.
HOPE- a very nice word.. It's the white insect that finally flew out of Pandora's box. So has it flown now into all our minds.. :)
